Yesterday night was the performing of the second chapter of Moments by Made feat. Erykah Badu, Jaybo and Miki´s string quintet
The venue was packed and besides the moveable furniture and the hundreds of lights able to produce all kinds of colors and vibes, the most important thing is missing or was simply forgotten: air-conditioning. Imagine 200 to 300 persons in a hardly aerated room. The temperature and humidity made me feel like Benjamin L. Willard. Nevertheless there was a vibe of excitement because the chance to witness Erykah Badu in a rather intimate environment is rare. The funniest moment of the evening was when a kid started to babble at the exact moment when the string quintet started to perform. It was hilarious because everybody had a hard time not to burst out in laughter, especially the quintet. Turned out that it was Erykah´s youngest daughter... Concerning the concert: people were enthused. Mrs. Badu is quite a character and her voice is just out there. I was thrilled when I thought I spotted Questlove but it was just a guy from Erykah´s entourage.
Here´s a little something from the rehearsal -
Jaybo did a beautiful painting that, as he says, is not inspired by one song in particular but more by the complete works of Erykah Badu. It´s called „Society Machine“ (250 X150 cm on wood. Acryl, mud, charcoal, car paint.) and is „dedicated against any form of oppression“.
