Apparently Mike Kelley committed suicide last week. He was 57 years old.

He had an anarchistic approach towards art and worked with a punk rock irreverence in multiple mediums of art – assemblage, performance, video, drawing , painting, sculpture. Confronting the viewer with subversiveness and anti comfortable feel. His breakthrough came with „Half a Man“ He collected used stuffed animal toys from fleamarkets and other sources and  transfomed them into big sculptures.

His exhibition „Day Is Done“ -a huge video installation bringing together 31 sculptures and three hours of video – was described by Kelley as „pseudo-autobiography“.

He was also founding member of Proto punk band Destroy All Monsters
