In 2006, Fred Maechler, owner of French skateboard company Mekanism started to invite artists to use skatedecks as blank canvas.
Instead of approaching the usual suspects (Mark Gonzales, Ed Templeton et al.), he asked artists that are not connected to street culture and its codes.
„I decided to go in the exact opposite direction by inviting established contemporary artists who had absolutely no connection with or knowledge of skateboarding to work on skateboards. Not only are the artists not familiar with such a scene but they often come from a different generation than those affiliated to it. ...A young audience has the possibility to discover, on an object they know, the work of artists they may have never heard of, and on the other hand followers of a contemporary artist may discover his or her work under a new angle since they didn't expect him or her to work on such a medium."
The exhibition is a retrospective of the Mekanism projects from 2006 to 2012, with a selection of works of the projects of Katharina Grosse, Peter Zimmermann, Albert Oehlen, Dirk Skreber, Olafur Eliasson, Josh Smith, Anselm Reyle, Guyton\Walker and David Reed.

Eigentlich sollte doch jeder Tag ein Tag gegen Homophobie sein, oder haben wir da was nicht verstanden!?
