Boards not Borders – Friendly supported by IRIEDAILY
Skate project “Boards not Borders” at the Skatehalle Berlin
Once a week young people have the opportunity to take part in free skateboard workshops every Monday (15:30-17:30h) in the Skatehalle Berlin, the equipment is also provided free of charge. True to the motto “Boards not Borders”, both young people from the neighbourhood and refugees can take part in the workshops. The constantly growing skate group is therefore a colourful mix and connects members from very different backgrounds.
This goes far beyond skating, because for the refugees there is also implicit language support in combination with active leisure activities. After all, learning by doing is still the best way to learn languages.
Integration und Skateboarding
Most positive side effect for all participants: Friendships develop! Of course, the young people get to know each other well in addition to skating, exchange ideas about different life situations and views and overcome prejudices.
The group can also take part in various other excursions and activities, over which they can have a say. This is exactly how integration works!
Other practical skills are also trained in the related participatory laboratory. These include, for example, building ramps, repairing skateboards or artistically designing equipment.
Special attention is also paid to self-responsibility and self-organisation among the young people. For example, advanced skaters can be trained as junior trainers. In this way, refugees can confidently guide their peers and teach them how to skate.
Integration through sport! Integration through skateboarding! Integration through fun! A great project of the Drop In e.V., which we are happy to support 🙂 🙂 🙂
Boards Not Borders x IRIEDAILY T-Shirt

You can buy the shirts either by sending a DM to the Drop In E.v. at Instagram or every Thursday at the Skatehalle Berlin, when our team rider Kim invites you to the Night Session from 20-22h. All income is 100% for the benefit of the organization.
