he went down in film history. His tracking shots are legendary and his use of music revolutionised film scores. His ideas and themes were always poignant and touched all aspects of human nature – sexuality, history, war, crime, space travel, power, desire, madness…

Mo Wax and UNKLE founder James Lavelle is a big admirer of Kubrick since he was a teenager, and his work often references the cinematographer. The first UNKLE record from 1998 is revealingly called “Psyence Fiction”.

Lavelle tried to get Kubrick as director for the music video for the track ‘Lonely Soul’. Kubrick was interested, but bound in the work on his movie ‘Eyes Wide Shut’. He tragically died a few days after the final cut, so a collaboration between the two never came to fruition.
“Looking back at this interaction in retrospect, what is fascinating to me is the extent of the impact that Stanley had on me as a young artist of just 22, so much so that I felt the need to track him down and involve him in the universe I was trying to build.” (James Lavelle)

Now Lavelle teamed up with  independent curator James Putnam and put together an exhibition featuring contemporary artists, film makers and musicians showcasing works inspired by the late great Kubrick.
