IRIEDAILY – History


There’s so much more to IRIEDAILY than simply being labeled as a streetwear brand from Berlin, as it is in fact a story about friendship, DIY-ethos, responsibility, respect and the challenge to live up to its own “STAY DIFFERENT“ DNA as well.

It was in 1990 when the foundation for IRIEDAILY was actually laid through WARD PRODUCTIONS – a printing company specialized in silkscreen, which was founded by Walter Molt, Achim Probst, Roland Wagner and Daniel Luger – where merchandise for iconic local bands such as Jingo de Lunch, Plan B or Einstürzende Neubauten was produced with great enthusiasm. Four years later though, the production of particular merchandise was stopped in favor of focusing on the idea to create and add their very own flavor to a rising streetwear market. As a result, IRIEDAILY was founded in 1994 by Daniel Luger, Roland Wagner and Walter Molt – with street artist Jaybo Monk joining the team as the art director, whose distinctive style shaped the company’s face for years in significant fashion.

An effective growth always was of major importance to the actual firm owners, which in return ensured IRIEDAILY to overcome the manifold crises within the textile trade during all these years notwithstanding. These days the brand can call a devoted and steadily increasing fan community its own, underlined by the fact that the products – collections for men and women, which confidently stand between streetwear, sportswear and street fashion – are now sold in over 400 stores in fifteen different countries. 21 years have passed since the company’s formation, and since then IRIEDAILY’s staff of permanent employees has grown up to an impressive number of 30, whereof the majority of them are on board since many years already.

IRIEDAILY – Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)


So what does CSR actually mean? CSR is the official acronym for ‘Corporate Social Responsibility, meaning that a corporation is committing itself to a   sustainable economic development – on one’s own authority, by choice and beyond any legal regulations. For that matter a specific focus is set on the responsibilities towards the actual environment as well as on the key markets, towards commercial partners (such as manufacturers e.g) and employees.

As a company based in Berlin-Kreuzberg we also assume responsibility to not only support but actively contribute to local projects, such as football clubs, youth development programs or refugee relief projects. Furthermore we’re backing up national anti-racist ventures and provide apprenticeship training positions.

Due to our general ethical and personal stance, our beliefs and entrepreneurial ideas, it basically is just a corollary that we’ve now joined the Fair Wear Foundation. The Fair Wear Foundation addressed itself to the task to provide and care about accurate working conditions and operating processes in the actual places of production within the textile industry.

For over twenty years, a part of IRIEDAILY’s collections is manufactured in Portugal, and the relationship to particular manufacturers has been a very close and trusting one ever since. Over the years manufacturing facilities in China were added, to whom a straight and long-term collaboration was established as well.

Our aim is, with the help of FWF, to allow the best possible and most transparent way of communication and exposition of our production processes for both – our manufacturers and clients alike.

FAIR WEAR FOUNDATION

Fair Wear Foundation (FWF)’s mission is to improve labour conditions in the garment industry. FWF has invested more than 10 years in developing effective solutions to the key problems facing workers in the garment industry. FWF’s four main areas of activity are:

• checking that member brands respect human rights in their supply chains
• checking working conditions in garment factories
• providing worker complaint hotlines in nine production countries
• ensuring cooperation between factories, brands and all other stakeholders

FWF is an independent non-profit organisation that is jointly governed by representatives of business, labour and non-profit sectors. Member companies must sign the 8-point FWF Code of Labour Practice, which is based on UN- and ILO- principles.

 

 

  1. employment is freely chosen
  2. freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining
  3. there is no discrimination in employment
  4. no exploitation of child labour
  5. payment of a living wage
  6. reasonable hours of work
  7. safe and healthy working conditions
  8. legally binding employment relationship

FWF publicly reports on the progress of member companies towards implementation of the Code. FWF also works closely with a network of stakeholder organisations in production countries. FWF’s 80 member companies are based in nine European countries, and represent around 120 brands. FWF member products are sold in 20,000 retail outlets in more than 80 countries around the world. FWF is active in nine production countries in Asia, Europe and Africa.
