Recap of the opening of Mellowpark’s new skate plaza

April 30th was the day! Under the motto “One city. A dream: side by side, with each other, for each other!” the new Skateplaza at Mellowpark has been opened with a great event. From the sales of the 1. FC Union Berlin x adidas x IRIEDAILY special jerseys and the Culture Wear, it was possible to provide financial support for the building of the new skate plaza and thereby to create a long-term added value for the Mellowpark, Köpenick and actually for everyone.

The entire Berlin skate community showed up with anticipation to finally celebrate the opening of the skate park and to take part in the various contest formats. But it wasn’t just one for event skateboarders. Young and old gathered at Mellowpark to enjoy the sunny day, to play table tennis or basketball or to watch the artists Hülpman and Marv doing live painting.

Live acts such as Kreuzberg artist Wa22ermann, Tightill feat. Donvtello and Carlo Karacho kicked off the evening, which ended with a glittering afterparty. All in all, a very special day and evening that will hopefully be remembered for a long time.

Side by side, with each other, for each other!

Photographer Lisa Wassmann captured a few highlights from the entire event for you!

The opening of the new Mellowpark skate plaza

In the afternoon, of course, the new skate plaza was in the spotlight and was taken over by everyone. No matter if beginner, advanced or pro – everyone met on eye level and respect to celebrate the skatepark together. For spectators and participants, contest formats like “Cash for Tricks” were highlights of the day’s programme.

Live Acts Carlo Karacho, Wa22ermann & Tightill feat. Donvtello

Those who stayed until the early evening could experience a bombastic line-up.
The female rap artist Wa22ermann, Carlo Karacho and Tightill feat. Donvtello were a perfect fit and got the crowd going with their energetic Hip-Hop sound.

Live Painting by the artists Hülpmann and Marv

The artists Hülpman and Marv put their minds together days before to develop a collaborative image for the wall of the “All Eins” youth club in Mellowpark. We think they did an excellent job of telling the story of our collab with adidas, FC. Union Berlin and the Mellowpark.

But not only that. On the day of the event, you could watch the artists live painting and giving the goal walls of Union Berlin a new look!

The exhibition about the building of the skate plaza

Yamato Living Ramps from Berlin was responsible for the construction of the skate plaza and built this elegant concrete park with a few helping hands from Mellowpark.

Of course, we documented the entire construction of the skate plaza in pictures and sound, because the creation of this skate park was the whole reason and goal of the entire cooperation: to create long-term added value for the location Köpenick, the Mellowpark and the skate community.
For the event, we designed an outdoor exhibition on construction fences and showed the best pictures once again in the indoor skate hall. The whole thing was of course accompanied by a documentary about the construction!
