SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

For some time now, we have been focusing on the use of sustainable materials in the production of our collections. The majority of T-shirts and sweaters are now made from organic cotton, and many knit styles are now also produced from this material. We are also increasingly using recycled materials such as recycled polyester and recycled nylon, especially in the jacket sector and for fleece styles. In addition, we have been using the natural material cork for a long time for the production of accessories such as caps, wallets or belts. In recent collections, we added sustainable materials such as hemp, TENCEL™ and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose fibers. Some accessories are made from the innovative material AppleSkin™ from the company Vegatex, which is partly produced from apple pomace.

For quite some time we have been using vegan materials for almost all articles. Materials like artificial wool, fake leather or cork are great alternatives to animal materials. All vegan IRIEDAILY Items are now also certified by PETA.

IRIEDAILY Organic Cotton

ORGANIC COTTON

Organic cotton is a basic material in the sustainable textile industry. The cultivation of organic cotton is free from artificial pesticides and fertilisers. The water consumption is enormously reduced and the farmland can be cultivated for several years.

RECYCLED POLYESTER

IRIEDAILY mainly uses certified recycled polyester made from post-consumer PET. Post-consumer PET is called rPET and is made from end-of-life plastics such as plastic packaging and consumer drinking bottles.

IRIEDAILY Recycled Nylon

RECYCLED NYLON

Recycled nylon comes from the remnants of the processing industry, which manufactures a wide variety of products from nylon. Nylon is a very robust fibre and is ideal for the production of jackets and accessories, for example. By using recycled nylon, scarce resources such as crude oil are sustainably conserved.

HEMP

The great masterpiece of nature! As a textile material burdened with many prejudices for a long time, hemp now seems to be the „salvation“ of the modern sustainable textile industry. In contrast to cotton, the hemp plant need less water, is higher yielding, needs no pesticides or artificial fertilizers for growth and grows much faster than cotton. In addition, hemp can be used to produce a wide range of fibre thicknesses, so that the „scratchy“ image of hemp material is obsolete. A new hemp era begins!

IRIEDAILY Cork

CORK

IRIEDAILY has been using this natural material for a long time, especially in the accessories sector. Cork is also such a beautiful gift of nature! But what is cork or how is it won? It‘ quite simple, because cork is just the bark of the cork oak. The bark is extracted without cutting or damaging the tree. In addition, a peeled cork oak binds much more carbon dioxide than an unpeeled one. The largest cork forests are in Portugal and Spain and are an important part of the local ecosystem!

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ VISCOSE

Some IRIEDAILY products are now made of the environmentally friendly and sustainable LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose fiber from the Austrian company Lenzing. For the extraction of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose, the company processes wood and pulp from sustainable forestry. The production of conventional viscose, which is used as a vegan alternative to silk, however, is only possible with the use of a lot of chemicals and high water consumption. We are therefore very happy to have found an environmentally friendly alternative. The LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose has even been awarded the EU Ecolabel! This label is only awarded to products or services that are manufactured according to environmentally friendly aspects.

Lenzing Ecovero Viscose

TENCEL ™

The TENCEL™ fiber is produced from certified renewable wood sources by the Austrian company Lenzing and is therefore the most environmentally cellulose based natural fiber available on the market. Lenzing uses local beech woods as well as eucalyptus, which can be cultivated without artificial fertilizers or pesticides and is therefore free of chemical additives. TENCEL™ is completely biodegradable and compostable. In addition, this fabric has an exceptionally smooth texture with a silky touch, warms as well as sheep’s wool and cools as well as linen. Cheers to TENCEL™!

APPLESKIN™

For the production of some accessories such as wallets and belts, we use the innovative material AppleSkin™ from the company Vegatex. This leather-like material is partly made from apple pomace, which is otherwise thrown away during the production of cider, juice and compote. From this waste, Vegatex has developed a vegan alternative to leather made from 50% bio-based pulp and apple waste and 50% water-based polyurethane.

IRIEDAILY Recycled Polyester

Recycled polyester is mostly obtained from PET bottles or beach/ocean plastic. But IRIEDAILY has decided to produce recycled polyester from waste products of the textile industry as well as from old clothes. The advantage of this is that the quality of the material is much better and the material can be recycled again and again in the textile industry. The cradle-to-cradle principal!
